Club Fitting
Charlie's Chatter
I've been involved in golf club testing and comparing for a little over 12 years now and I will tell you some things that I've proved over and over again to be true, or at least ninety percent of the time.

If you like a club, for whatever reason, even silly one ones, like "my neighbor has one and he loves it" or "I read in one of my golf magazines that even Pros are switching to them". If you, the player, believe there is value to the reason you will play better with this club, you generally will, and that leads to a lower score.

The big story for the last couple of years has been and will continue to be, is club fitting. In the last year I went to visit with three renowned club fitters and received three different diagnosis. The one that I liked best was "My irons should be an inch longer than standard". Well, that satisfied my 77 year old needs, the longer the shaft, the longer the shot. What I have also found is when I hit a good iron shot I think "That fitter really knows his business", however when I flub one, I want that fitter dead!!!

Those of you that have read my columns for a while know that I have said "It's not the arrows, it's the Indians". Remember, I said the things I say are 90% true, it's up to you to decide which works for you.
